May 2014 Volunteer Notes
Spring is in the air! Finally some warm days and green grass!
As we enter May we will be putting together the food items that we will be putting in the bags for the Summer Lunch Program. These are the bags of food that will go to families with school age children, once a month, beginning in June. The children may range in age from kindergarten through twelfth grade. You will notice signs in the storage area saying, “Save for Summer Lunch Program”. Please don’t stock from these pallets. The bags will be given out June through August. There is a group from Oakwood Church who will be packing the bags for us.
We are currently looking for a few drivers who can pick up bread for us for the summer. We need someone for Monday and Thursday to pick up the donated bead from Mackenthun’s. It can be one person doing both or one person each day. It could also be a team of people who trade off weeks. We are open! Please talk to any of the Coordinators if you know someone who may be able to do this until October.
The food shelf will be closed on Monday, May 26th, for Memorial Day.
One reminder about working your shift…please come at least ten minutes earlier than the opening time for your day. It makes the person in charge really nervous if it is approaching opening time and there are no volunteers on deck! We need time to go over the items for the day with you. Thanks much! We gave out fewer hams and Easter Baskets this year than in the past few years. We have noticed our number of clients down a bit and we are hoping it means people are finding meaningful work that will support their family.
Have a good month!
