While the Club has provided financial support to the Waconia United Food Shelf for many years to help purchase food, it has not been involved in a hands-on project designed specifically to increase capacity, increase access to food and facilitate greater outreach to clients and prospective donors.

March is MN FoodShare month. This is a month when food and monetary donations are tallied up and at the end of the month we will get an additional 10-15% cash increase based on how much we collect. So the bigger the total, the bigger our check! This is sponsored by the Mpls. Council of Churches. Listen for information on the radio and television. Encourage your friends to donate in March!
Watch for your invitation to the Volunteer Appreciation Dinner with your April schedule. A reminder that the dinner is Monday, April 21st.
Thanks again for all of your help during the time some of the coordinators are on vacation!
HAPPY ST. PATRICK’S DAY & THINK SPRING!
HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY! We enter February hoping for this Minnesota winter to let go! As the cold continues some of our volunteers and coordinators are leaving for warmer places for awhile. You may notice some new faces on your shift as we move folks around or have subs filling in for them. Some of you may be helping by opening and closing and being the “lead” person for a time or two. Thanks so much for helping to keep the food shelf running smoothly.
Here is another “Save the Date” reminder for our Volunteer Appreciation Dinner. It will be held on April 21st most probably at St. Joseph’s again this year. The invitation will come out confirming the location and other information with your April schedule in late March.
The Walk on Waconia committee has asked if we would try an recruit some volunteers to help out that day. It is April 26th. The Food Shelf is the recipient of food donations and a generous check from this event. They particularly are asking for people willing to stand at intersections and direct the walkers/runners that day. If you have a spouse that might be interested that would be fine as well. Please contact Marty Cramer and I will forward the name to the committee. Several Board members have already committed to volunteering.
Once again, thanks for all you do to make the food shelf a welcoming and helpful place for our families. Stay warm!
We have endured what has seemed like January most of December! Hopefully, January will bring us a “January thaw”.
Thanks to all of you for your patience and good cheer toward our clients during this holiday season as we see our numbers climb. I do believe we will return to a more usual pattern this month. We did give out about 200 Thanksgiving Bags in November and in December a generous donor supplied us with $25 gift cards to Mackenthun’s for our clients! What a blessing to our families.
We have had several large food donations that help us keep our shelves stocked over the next few months, so please stock wisely…we need to make it last!
A reminder to let your Coordinator know if you are arranging to switch with someone due to winter travel plans. We need to be sure all shifts are covered.
A save the date announcement…we are planning our Volunteer Appreciation Dinner for April 21st. More details later.
Happy New Year!
