October 2014, Volunteer Notes
What great fall weather we have been experiencing these past couple of weeks! Hopefully, you have been able to enjoy walking, golfing, gardening or whatever you like to do in the Minnesota fall. Let’s hope it sticks around for awhile!
At the food shelf we are appreciating a couple of months with no special projects before the holidays are upon us. We have only three backpacks left of the many we received in August. It was fun to see how excited some of the children were at receiving the backpacks.
One thing we do need that is not food related is more children’s books. They fly off the shelves. So if you have some your children or grandchildren have outgrown, please bring them in.
We have had some wonderful produce donated this summer and it is still coming in. We are looking forward to apples, squash and pumpkins in October. In August we had 1,253 pounds of produce donated.
We did purchase diapers in sizes Newborn to 5. We bought them in bulk so they need to be bagged, but hopefully, that will fill a gap we have been experiencing for quite awhile. The boxes are in the intake area.
I would call to your attention a special event out at the Schram Vineyards in October. They are donating part of the proceeds to our food shelf. It is called the WePalooza and will be October 5th. See our Facebook Page or website www.waconiafoodshelf for more information. It is a Women’s Expo and there is a charge to get into the tent which does include a glass of wine. Sounds like a very good time!
For any volunteers planning winter get-aways please let the coordinator you work with know in advance so they can fill your time slot. Don’t call Jamie, she is not the scheduler, it is the coordinator who schedules. Thanks!
Enjoy October! Happy Halloween!
